IOMFF Highlights: Thursday
ISLE OF MAN FILM FESTIVAL - 4th-8th September 2019

And so it begins… Thursday at IOMFF’17

This evening saw the 6th annual Isle of Man Film Festival kick off in style. As a follow up to last year’s sold-out event, we hosted an IOMFF Movie Quiz at one of our favourite event spaces, Noa Bakehouse.

The evening started with a pretty tough ‘opening lines’ round which got everyone focussed on the task at hand… winning our EPIC prizes.

  • First prize this evening was a car +2 passengers from our sponsors the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company, plus ‘dinner and a movie’; Dinner for 6 at Coast Restaurant at The Claremont Hotel and 6 movie vouchers for any screening of your choice at the Broadway Cinema, Villa Marina.
  • Second prize was A Movie In Style… 6 movie vouchers to the Broadway Cinema Villa Gaiety, and a bag of gorgeous IOMFF goodies
  • Third prize was ‘Mugs of Wine!’ – 2 bottles of wine and some covetable IOMFF mugs to make all of your colleagues jealous tomorrow in the office.

Round three saw us battling a couple of technical difficulties (who hasn’t, hey?) with our ‘Disney Toon Tune’ round – but our eagle-eared quizzers weren’t phased and managed to smash the round anyway!

It was all ‘eyes down’ from there, with ‘Who Am I?’, opening lines, anagrams and picture rounds as all 15 of our teams battled it out to be crowned King of the Quizzers 2017. It was a tense battle but we finally found our victors…

Team ‘Hair in the Keppel Gate‘ weighed in in third with 104 points

107 points saw ‘The Usual Suspects’ claim the second prize… just one point in it behind first place.

And (drum roll please), our top prize winners of IOMFF Movie Pub Quiz 2017 went to ‘Fairybridge to Terabithia’ with a whopping 108 points

On top of that, we had a spot prize for Best Team Name, ‘Honey I Shrunk the Quiz’ won the travel poker set from our friends at Pokerstars.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a pub quiz without a booby prize! Congratulations to ‘Half baked Bean Machine’ – headed up by Chris and the hardworking Noa team – who managed to score an half baked 69 points and walk away with the wooden spoon. To be fair, they were serving pizzas as well as listening to the quiz!

Thanks to all of our wonderful film fans who braved the rain to come out and join us this evening. A big ‘thank you’ also to our festival volunteers, Lian, Martyn, Matthew, Pauline and Joanna. And of course Steve Babb for being our official photographer (and make up guru).

Tomorrow, we’ll be taking a little break to welcome our filmmakers to the Island but we’ll be back on Saturday with a jam packed day of festival fun. Check out our festival programme for more information and we hope to see you over the weekend!
