*New* Best Manx Independent Film Category for 2016

In light of the increasing numbers of Manx entries to the Isle of Man Film Festival’s short film competition, we have decided to create a new category to highlight the growing indigenous filmmaking community on the Island.

The Best Manx Independent Film will be chosen from among the shortlisted Manx entries in the competition. The 8 finalists qualified for the shortlist because their project was either made by a mainly Manx crew and cast, or the film was shot on the Isle of Man. The festival-associated films made through the MannIN Shorts scheme cannot be included in the competition.

The final 8 will be screened at a special event at the Manx Museum between 3-5pm on Thursday 8th September. Filmmakers will be in attendance where possible and a Q&A will follow the screening. Our shortlist is as follows:

GURFA, Rebecca Daniel
INTO THE LIGHT: PROLOGUE, James Twyman
MISOPHONIA, Eloise White
RIGHT TO PLAY, Nick Coole
THE AVENUES (music video), Sonya Quayle
U R MY AUTUMN, Richard Plumley
UNESCO BIOSPHERE, Glenn Whorrall
UMBRELLA, Alessandro Mazzotta

There is a special Isle of Man Arts Council award for the Best Manx Independent Film which will be presented at the awards ceremony on Sunday 11th September at 4.30pm.

Good luck to all shortlisted projects and we look forward to screening their films at the Manx Museum on the Thursday of festival week.
